Jeep’s Recalled Gearshift

Jeep is recalling vehicles with its new automatic transmission gear selector. NHTSA says it’s a bad design shifter & is confusing drivers, causing them to exit a vehicle that’s still in gear. 121 crashes, 30 injuries & 1 death have been reported.

No matter what gear selection you make with the selector, it’s designed to return to the same position. It seems to be like a joystick; maybe designed by a young person who plays alot of video games.

* “If it was not a good design that was user friendly and had fail safes built into it then it has nothing to do with people being stupid or not having common sense. It was a failed experiment that has consequences and needs revision to keep people from dying.
…People could very easily get confused with it and anyone else that isn’t used to it could also. Additionally, If the sun is glaring in on the dash and there is a lot of noise around you then you would never know it wasn’t in park. This shifter design has killed people.”
