1) The cellCONTROL device is plugged into a vehicle’s OBD-II port. Installed in all vehicles sold in the U.S. since 1996, OBD-II ports are used to connect directly to the vehicle’s onboard computer system. (Typically, service technicians use the OBD-II port to read the vehicle’s computer systems to check for any issues or system messages.
2) Next, the cellCONTROL app is downloaded onto the teen’s cell phone.
3) Lastly, parents activate their cellCONTROL online and set up an account. Scosche offers a free account that allows one phone number to be protected.
Technically, how it works:
The product is designed to use your vehicle’s built-in computer to prevent drivers from performing any tasks manually with their cell phones while their vehicle is in motion. This includes phone calls, emails, text messages, music, and applications. With the cellCONTROL in use, drivers are required to use a handsfree device in order to complete any of these tasks; any attempts to use the device with your hands is blocked.
The CellControl works with all Bluetooth-enabled cell phones wirelessly tied to the OBD-II transmitter. Nearly all phone functionality is blocked via Bluetooth when the car is in motion. Software is installed on the mobile device, it prevents the user from completely disabling the Bluetooth connection. The patented Cellcontrol technology uses the Bluetooth connection, but doesn’t occupy a Bluetooth profile, allowing cellCONTROL users to use their Bluetooth headsets or handsfree vehicle systems without any issues.
